Commission Breton in Italy and Malta to discuss EU technology capacities and vaccine strategy roll-out

Commissioner Thierry Breton, in charge of the Internal Market and responsible for the Task Force on Industrial Scale-up of COVID-19 vaccine production, is in Italy and Malta today to discuss both EU technology capacities and vaccine strategy roll-out. During his morning visit in Rome, Commissioner Breton met with Prime Minister Mario Draghi to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing EU industry in its green and digital transitions. They also discussed the milestone reached last week by the EU which delivered to Member States enough doses to fully vaccinate 70% of adult population. Moreover, Commissioner Breton had a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti to notably discuss the upcoming EU Alliance on semiconductors. In Italy, the Commissioner also met the Undersecretary of State at the Prime Minister’s Office with portfolio for Space Bruno Tabacci to discuss connectivity and the EU launchers Alliance. Later during the day, Commissioner Breton will be in Valletta to meet with Prime Minister Robert Abela. They will have the opportunity to discuss the implementation of the Digital COVID Certificate, as well as the successful vaccination campaign rolled-out in Malta, which fully vaccinated 81% of its adult population.
